Congratulations to Crystal Yarbrough for being named MCDA’s March 2021 Hero of the Month! Crystal’s passion for helping victims of human trafficking is evident in everything she does. She is currently the Alabama director for Eye Heart World and the director for the Rose Center located right here in Mobile, AL. The Rose Center is a drop-in center for young women who are severely at risk for trafficking or are already being exploited. They provide services such as job preparation, group counseling, individual therapy, and more. The Global Slavery Index estimates that there are over 6000 victims of human trafficking each day in Alabama, which includes labor and sex trafficking. The average age of entry into sex trafficking as a victim is 11-14 years of age and exploitation can continue for years. There are many adult victims, too. It is the Rose Center’s mission to fight for these individuals and to create a space where they can get the support they need to live empowered lives.
